A native of Southern California, Steve developed his musical style and ability at a young age by studying and playing with some of the greatest trumpet players in the music business local to the Los Angeles area. All the while he worked as a studio musician and constantly performed live with groups of various styles, playing everything from big band jazz to Latin salsa and contemporary top 40. While living near Hollywood, Steve also worked in the television and film industry with credits that include repeated appearances on such shows as the Tracy Ulman Show, Falcon Crest, Dynasty, and ABC's Television Special "Story of a Mafia Wife" starring Melissa Gilbert, as well as soundtrack recordings for public broadcasting and countless commercial television and radio jingles.

In 1993 Steve relocated to the Portland Oregon area and soon became one of the Pacific Northwest's most sought after trumpet players. While living in Portland, Steve taught trumpet privately and appeared regularly in a variety of situations and with a number of the area’s most popular groups including the Lloyd Jones Struggle, Pink Martini, and Rubberneck to name only a few while also making major concert appearances supporting an impressive list of internationally acclaimed recording artists to include: Arturo Sandoval, David Sanborn, recent Grammy Award winner Delbert McClinton, Manhattan Transfer, Diane Schuur, composer and comedian Steve Allen, The Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown Big Band, Mary Wilson and the Supremes, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Spinners, Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons, and the Fifth Dimension.

After 16 successful years in Portland, Steve relocated once again and now resides in Bangkok Thailand where he performs regularly with his piano playing brother, Randy Cannon at the internationally acclaimed "Living Room" jazz club in the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit Hotel in Bangkok. Steve also appears regularly with Thailand's premier saxophone celebrity, Saxman Koh, at local clubs and festivals and travels throughout Southeast Asia for special event concerts and international jazz festivals.
